GI team enhances care for kids with inflammatory bowel disease
Tuesday, December 12, 2017
Our GI team has joined forces with Improve Care Now, a network of more than 96 care centers and 900 pediatric gastroenterologists nationwide collaboratively working to ensure optimal treatment and health of children and adolescents with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. These centers have been applying innovative quality improvement methods to improve initial diagnostic testing and evaluation; standardize the classification of the severity, phenotype and extent of disease; improve the detection and treatment of poor nutrition and growth; and improve the use of immunomodulatory, biological and other medications. Each center is advancing clinical information systems and developing a population registry to improve documentation, monitoring and care.
This quality improvement research project focuses on measuring and enhancing the care we provide to our patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Improve Care Now has created a patient registry that provides our team with tools to closely follow our patients and compare our treatments and outcomes with those from other centers across the country. At each visit our team updates the patient registry with new, de-identified information about each patient's condition and treatment. Our goal is to enroll 100% of our patients with inflammatory bowel disease into this registry and we are honored to be partnered with this group in an effort to provide the best care possible for our patients.
