Critical Care Medicine
A critically ill or injured child requires the medical expertise and compassion that only an experienced critical care team can provide. At Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU, your child's care is managed by board-certified pediatric critical care physicians, with a highly trained team of nurses, respiratory therapists, child-life specialists, nutritionists, social workers, pharmacists, chaplains and other health care professionals.
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Opened in 1978, our PICU was a pioneer in the state of Virginia, the first to offer the new specialty of Pediatric Critical Care. Today, it is still the only Level 1 PICU in the region. Over the years, we have advanced the level of care by implementing emerging technologies and applying the knowledge gained from critical care research.
