Level 10 of the Children’s Tower is familiar ground for Dr. Ashlie Tseng. It’s where she cares for patients as a hospital medicine specialist. Whether kids are battling a bug, recovering from surgery or making progress after a stay in the PICU, they count on her to help them get better.
On December 12, Dr. Tseng brought more than her medical expertise to her patients, families and teammates. She was among the more than 50 members of the VCU Health Orchestra and Wind Ensemble that transformed the Children’s Tower’s indoor garden – just steps away from her patients’ rooms – into a concert hall. They combined their musical talents to share holiday cheer, which can sometimes be hard to come by when you’re in the hospital this time of year.
“I feel so lucky to be able to do what I do and to be a part of the community of team members here at CHoR that works together to take care of our patients and families when they need it most. It was so special to be able to share the joy of music with our patients and families, and also with the team members who are so passionate in caring for children every day. Being able to link two important parts of my life, music and medicine, was so much fun,” said Dr. Tseng.
The musical ensemble is made up of doctors, nurses, administrative staff, medical students and other team members from across VCU Health. They perform throughout the health system and in the community.
