U.S. News & World Report’s 2024-25 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings were released today and we’ve been named to the list for the 10th time.
CHoR ranked #34 in the nation for nephrology. The specialty has earned CHoR distinction as a Best Children’s Hospital 10 times since the rankings were established in 2007. We also ranked among the top 50 for pediatric and adolescent behavioral health. Because this is the first year behavioral health is included in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals listings, the publication did not provide ordinal rankings.
“We’ve had families travel from throughout the country, and even outside the U.S., for care from our remarkable nephrology experts. Year after year the rankings reflect the exceptional care this team provides,” said Elias Neujahr, MHA, MBA, CHoR president. “In this inaugural year of ranking pediatric and adolescent behavioral health, U.S. News & World Report recognized that our team shines when it comes to providing essential care for kids and teens. I’m immensely proud to celebrate these two service lines – two of the many outstanding teams that make up our comprehensive children’s hospital that’s making a difference for families every day.”
Our nephrology team has been providing care for 3-year-old Lux Miles-Levi and his kidneys since he was in the NICU. He comes three days a week for hemodialysis and receives ongoing monitoring, medication management, dietary counseling, management of complications, and transplant evaluation and management.
“The care Lux has received from the nephrology team is always attentive and thorough. They take the time to listen to any concerns, provide clear explanations and involve me in decision making about treatment. They make Lux feel valued and supported throughout this process,” said Lux’s mom, Ciara Miles.
It’s this collaborative approach to care that continues to merit recognition.
“This is the 10th time earning this honor. We have a great team that partners with families, local and regional medical personnel, and resources within the institution and the community,” said Dr. Timothy Bunchman, chief of pediatric nephrology and rheumatology. “The picture of success is communication, partnership and always striving to give 100%. This team does this.”
Supporting and improving the mental, behavioral and emotional health among our youth continues to be a high priority at CHoR and our Virginia Treatment Center for Children. With a growing team, we’re expanding the expertise and availability kids and families need. Earning distinction as a Best Children’s Hospital underscores the valuable trajectory of these efforts.
“This achievement reflects our deep commitment to providing compassionate, evidence-based care for children and their families. We are dedicated to ensuring that children receive the best possible treatment and support in their healing journey,” said Dr. Ekaterina Stepanova, chief of child and adolescent psychiatry. “This milestone is only the first step in our path of improving access to mental health care and implementing better and more effective treatments.”
U.S. News & World Report developed a detailed survey to gather clinical data from more than 100 medical centers. This information, coupled with surveys of thousands of pediatric specialists, was used to award “best” designations to the hospitals that excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, level and quality of hospital resources directly related to patient care, and expert opinions.
Whether they’re coming from around the corner or across the country, thousands of families turn to CHoR each year for quality, safe and innovative care for needs ranging from common to complex.
