Academic medical centers are a hub of activity. At any given moment, lives are being saved, breakthroughs are being discovered and tomorrow’s experts are budding. Residents and fellows come from throughout the country – and even the world – to experience all of these situations as they further their medical education at CHoR.
Residents have graduated from medical school and are training in a specific field, like pediatrics in the case of CHoR. Fellows have completed residency and are continuing their training in a specialized area of medicine, such as pediatric cardiology, neonatology or neurology. Some choose CHoR because of our passionate, skilled attending physician mentors, while others value the thoughtful pediatric residency schedule that promotes wellbeing through work-life balance. Whatever brings them to us, we’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of their journey.
“Our pediatric residents and fellows get a unique training experience as we are the only academic medical center in the central Virginia area working with children and their families from all walks of life. They have the opportunity to learn about all pediatric disease while connecting with our community and enjoying everything Richmond has to offer,” said Dr. Marieka Helou, vice chair of education and interim residency program director. “This year, moving into a brand-new building that was designed specifically for kids has made their experience that much more rewarding. For 3 to 6 years, depending on the training program, they dedicate themselves to our patients and we are thankful for their service!”
Last Saturday, we celebrated our 2024 graduating residents and fellows. As we wish some farewell, others will stay at CHoR for the next step in their professional paths.
