Today, the Pediatric Residency Program at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond provides a broad and truly outstanding pediatric educational experience.
In our program, residents are provided with a comprehensive and stimulating curriculum that includes clinical care, teaching and research. Our faculty is committed to providing the highest quality education in a supportive and collegial atmosphere. The faculty, while always remaining readily and easily accessible, empowers residents to learn the critical management skills necessary to function autonomously.
The residency program emphasizes balance, diversity and flexibility. It is designed to provide residents with exposure to a wide variety of pathology and patient care environments, while serving the urban, suburban and rural pediatric populations of Richmond and surrounding areas.
Mission statement: The mission of the VCU Pediatric Residency Program is to train physicians to become expert pediatricians committed to providing superior medical care to infants, children and adolescents. Our curriculum emphasizes the delivery of compassionate medical care, an active role in child advocacy, a dedication to community service, a plan for lifelong learning and a desire for the advancement of medical knowledge. These are the essential qualities that we believe define an exceptional pediatrician.
Besides the supportive learning environment with great faculty and co-residents, the 2-week rotation schedule makes a big difference in the quality of life on a day-to-day basis

Residents in our program play an active role in the training program. They participate in monthly house staff “town hall” meetings, residency steering committees including the Program Evaluation Committee, and have direct and frequent contact with the Chief residents and program directors.
