Dr. Thompson grew up in Williamsburg, Virginia. He attended the College of William and Mary where he graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Health Sciences. He went on to work in the public health field for the Richmond City Health District for several years prior to attending the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, VA where he received his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine. After completing his residency and fellowship training at the University of Florida, he is excited about returning home to join the clinical faculty at VTCC.
Dr. Thompson has a passion for working with children and adolescents with a variety of mental health backgrounds. He utilizes psychotherapy and psychotropic medications with the goal of assisting youth in achieving their full potential. He has a special interest in medical education and received several teaching awards during his residency training. He is a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists. Outside of the office, Dr. Thompson enjoys running, hiking, listening to podcasts, and exploring Richmond’s many locally owned restaurants.
