Dr. C.D. Anthony Herndon joined the Virginia Commonwealth University faculty in 2015. He serves as the Children's Hospital Foundation Endowed Professor of Surgery/Urology, chief of the Division of Pediatric Urology, surgeon-in-chief of CHoR and medical director of perioperative services. Dr. Herndon is a seasoned pediatric urologist and clinical leader with extensive training, including completion of The Executive Program in 2012 at University of Virginia Darden School of Business and The Science of Safety in Healthcare from the Armstrong Institute of Patient Safety and Quality in 2013.
Dr. Herndon is an active member on multiple national committees, including:
- Societies for Pediatric Urology (president)
- Journal of Pediatric Urology (editor-in-chief)
- AUA Intersex and Hydronephrosis Task Forces (member)
Dr. Herndon’s research focuses on longitudinal studies involving prenatal urinary tract dilation. He has co-authored several consensus statements involving this condition and serves as chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Guideline for Perinatal Hydronephrosis. He serves as the PI for the Societies for Pediatric Urology Multi-Center Hydronephrosis Registry, the only registry of its kind in the world, and a project he initiated as a resident in 1998.
