Dr. Ma's primary research interests are in host innate immune defects and airway inflammation in cystic fibrosis (CF) and other lung diseases. We are investigating novel mechanisms of impaired macrophage function in the CF airway and how impaired macrophage function contributes to CF lung disease. He has secondary research interests in respiratory mucus, disorders of respiratory mucus and mucus clearance, and therapies to augment abnormal mucociliary clearance. He has expertise in rheological and biophysical properties of mucus.
