Research areas
Our lab investigates the impact of neutrophil elastase to regulate airway remodeling and macrophage function in chronic airway inflammatory lung diseases. We are studying the mechanisms by which neutrophil elastase blocks the innate immune function of macrophages and expands airway inflammation.
We are also investigating in cell and animal models the role of a class of drugs, glycosaminoglycans, to block neutrophil elastase and inflammation in Cystic Fibrosis and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease models.
