Adopting a child with a craniofacial difference requires love, commitment and a thorough understanding of a child’s craniofacial difference.
Most families find it very helpful to schedule an appointment with our medical director and program coordinator during the adoption process.
At your pre-adoption visit, our team reviews medical records and photos and describes possible treatment plans based on the child’s diagnosis.
Feeding and speech/language development will be reviewed. The possible psychological, financial and social/emotional issues a parent or child may experience will be reviewed as well. This information helps families feel more confident, supported and prepared, both during the adoption process and after settling in at home with their new family member.
An initial multidisciplinary team evaluation where the child will meet the specialists on our team will be planned. This gives our team time get to know the child and better understand individual treatment needs.
