    Dr. Oliver KaramDr. Oliver Karam, John J. Mickell Endowed Professor and Chief of the Division of Critical Care Medicine at CHoR has accepted a position as section chief of critical care medicine at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital effective July 1, 2022. Dr. Karam joined the CHoR faculty in 2017 and became chief of the Division of Critical Care Medicine in 2019. He is an international leader in transfusion medicine and coagulation disorders and is the chair of BloodNet, the largest pediatric blood research network.

    The Department of Pediatrics is grateful for Dr. Karam’s leadership and his contributions to clinical care and research over the past five years. We wish him well in his new endeavor at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital.

    Dr. Mark MarinelloDr. Mark Marinello, associate professor and medical director of the pediatric intensive care unit, has graciously stepped up to serve as interim chief of the Division of Critical Care Medicine while we conduct a national search for the next John J. Mickell Endowed Professor and Chief of the Division of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Marinello joined our faculty in 2009 and has been a leader in the PICU for many years. His expertise was integral in the expansion of our PICU in 2018 and he’s contributed to the planning of the PICU in the new children’s tower, set to open in spring 2023. Dr. Marinello is well respected by his colleagues and recognized among his patients for his expert, compassionate bedside manner. He also is known for considering the perspectives of his colleagues across all disciplines and for his approach to treating the whole child and family, not just the medical situation at hand. He brings leadership expertise in advancing quality improvement and safety as well as mentoring future generations of pediatric intensivists.

    Dr. Marinello completed medical school and pediatric residency training at Georgetown University and received his pediatric critical care fellowship training at CHoR.
