Use VCU Health MyChart for easy access to your child’s health info

Parents are busy! We know health care is just one very important piece of your family’s hectic schedule, which is why we try to make staying on top of it as easy as possible. Your child’s health information is just a couple clicks away – any time of day – in the VCU Health MyChart patient portal.

Signing up for MyChart allows you to:

    • View your child’s labs, test results, vaccinations and other health records
    • See and request appointments
    • Complete pre-appointment and pre-procedure forms when it’s convenient for you
    • Request prescription refills
    • Message providers
    • View insurance summaries and pay bills
    • Submit a medical record request
    • Connect accounts so you can manage health information for your family

“MyChart is the best way to keep up with health information and communication between appointments,” said Dr. Sean McKenna, pediatrician. “You can review the provider’s notes, send us questions and more, all on your own schedule. We’re always happy to address questions and concerns by phone, but MyChart makes it easy for parents to manage children’s health care when and where it’s convenient. Our team can often reply more quickly in the portal too. If you’re not using it yet, I highly encourage you to register.”

MyChart is convenient, safe and secure

You can access MyChart at home or on the go from any digital device. A unique username and password will ensure your portal account is secure. To access MyChart from your mobile device, you may be asked to set up a fingerprint or 4-digit code login for enhanced security.

Proxy access to children’s health information in MyChart

The level of access available to patients and parents/guardians depends on the patient’s age.

    • When kids are young – ages 12 and under – parents/guardians can gain full proxy access to view and manage medical information on behalf of children in their care.
    • When a child turns 13, parent/guardian full proxy access automatically converts to message only access. This complies with a Virginia law designed to uphold teens’ privacy and give them safe space to seek medical care. The teen can then create their own MyChart account and determine what level of access to give adult proxies.

There are exceptions for teens who are unable to make medical decisions and consent for themselves. Talk with your child’s medical team if this applies to your family.
